Ethan graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall and played basketball. He was an All-Independent School League (ISL) selection and a finalist for the History Award.

2018-19 season highlights:Â Shlager played in 15 games for the Mules this season. He averaged 2.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
2017-18 season highlights:Â Schlager played in all 24 games for the Mules, starting 19 of them, and averaged 21.3 minutes per game. He finished third on the team in rebounds (96). He also averaged 6.9 points and 1.2 assists per contest, while scoring 5.5 points in NESCAC games. Through just two seasons with the Mules, Ethan already has 325 points, 175 rebounds, 84 assists, and 82 made 3-point shots.
2016-17 season highlights:Â Schlager played in all 24 games for the Mules, averaging 22.7 minutes per game. He was second on the team in assists (55). He averaged 6.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per contest, while averaging 9.2 points and 3.1 assists in conference games. He was named to the NESCAC Winter All-Sportsmanship Team.
