Jake graduated from Glen Ridge High School, where he was a member of the football, wrestling, and lacrosse teams.

Jake majors in Economics. At Colby he participates in Cure the Cloud Club. Over the summer, Jake worked as an MLB Network remote operations intern.
2018 season highlights: Schwern played in all nine games for the Mules. He finished his final season second in the NESCAC in touchdowns (9), yards (971), and yards per game (107.9). He also recorded 19 receptions for 142 yards, finishing with 1113 all-purpose yards. Jake was named to the All-NESCAC team. His 226-yard performance against Bates earned him Offensive Player of the Week.
2017 season highlights: Jake played in all nine games for the Mules, leading the team in rushing, receptions, all-purpose yards, and touchdowns with 138 attempts for 642 yards, 39 receptions for 254 yards, and eight total touchdowns (7 rushing). He also returned nine kicks for 183 yards. Schwern broke or tied three school records in the final week of the season, earning him NESCAC Offensive Player of the Week. He now has the most rushing yards in a single game (262 against Bowdoin) and is tied for the most touchdowns in a game (4) and most points scored in a game (24) in school history. He finished the year tied for fourth in the NESCAC in touchdowns.
2016 season highlights: Schwern played in all eight games for the Mules, finishing second on the team in rushing with 47 attempts for 132 yards. He also recorded three tackles and caught five passes for 28 yards.
2015 season highlights: Schwern appeared in three games on defense for the Mules, making two tackles.
