*Colby College has updated its VISITOR and SPECTATOR POLICY: (updated 6.8.22)
The College is currently welcoming visitors and spectators at all events and competitions, with the following guidelines:
- All visitors are welcome to attend home games. For away games, please check the host institution policies.
- Outdoor and indoor tailgating is allowed at home events. For information on approved indoor tailgating activities, please contact Ben Steinkamp at bsteinka@colby.edu, 207-859-4905.
- Dogs and other pets are not permitted inside the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center, with the exception of service animals. Dogs and other pets are permitted at outdoor facilities, but are required to be leashed at all times.
Following these policies and being respectful of others can make this a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. We thank you for your understanding and support!
OUTDOOR TAILGATING
Tailgating Locations
Harold Alfond Stadium: The Home team tailgate lot will be located in the grass area off Roberts Lot (between Mayflower Hill Drive and Roberts lot). Visiting teams are permitted to tailgate in the upper athletics lot (signage will be placed to denote spaces). Roberts lot will be utilized for home team tailgates in the Spring Seasons only.
Mark Serdjenian Field/Bill Alfond Field/Coombs Field/Softball field: Home team and visiting team tailgates are permitted to take place in the lower athletic center lot.
General Tailgating Policies
- Tailgating should take place directly behind your vehicle and should not impede traffic flow to or within the lot. Tailgating without a vehicle should take place within the parking space area, or nearby grass areas adjacent to lots.
- Active sports (e.g., Frisbee or football throwing) are allowed as long as the activity does not endanger anyone within the surrounding area or roadway.
- Drinking games (e.g., beer pong, quarters, flip cup, etc.) are strictly prohibited.
- We kindly ask that you clean up your tailgating area by utilizing the trash and recycling cans located throughout the lot.
- It is recommended that game attendees secure their tailgate area before, during, and after the event to protect personal belongings. Colby College is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Bathrooms are available behind the Harold Alfond Stadium grandstand, at the Baseball/Softball Complex, and at the Athletic Support Building between the Bill Alfond Field and the Mark Serdjenian Field.
- Coolers are not permitted to be brought into the seating areas of any venue.
Food/Grilling
- You are welcome to bring your own food and picnic items into the tailgate area. However, Colby College assumes no responsibility for food consumed at a tailgate on College property.
- Grills are permitted, but must be elevated. Open flames (i.e., fire pits) are prohibited.
- We ask that you completely extinguish charcoal fires with water before leaving them unattended.
- Please remove extinguished charcoal from campus for disposal and do not dump charcoal on the ground or in trash bins/dumpsters.
Alcohol
- All State of Maine and federal laws and College policies are in effect during tailgating.
- Students shall abide by the College’s Alcohol and Drug Policy, located within the Student Handbook. For purposes of Colby’s restriction on open containers, the tailgating area is considered a sanctioned event space.
- The sale of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited.
- Driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol is prohibited by Maine law. If you or a visitor are under the influence of alcohol and do not have safe transportation, please contact Colby’s Security Department.
- Common containers, such as beer kegs and party balls, are prohibited in tailgate areas. Excessive quantities of alcohol will be subject to removal or confiscation.
- GLASS BOTTLES ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED IN THE TAILGATE LOTS.
- Alcoholic beverages of any kind are not permitted outside the tailgating area and/or in athletic venue grandstands.
INDOOR TAILGATING
- Visiting teams are encouraged to reach out to Ben Steinkamp at bsteinka@colby.edu, 207-859-4905 for more information on approved indoor tailgating activities
- All rooms are required to be previously reserved for any and all indoor tailgating activities- requests for rooms will not be able to be provided on the day of (requests may be made by reaching out to Ben Steinkamp, bsteinka@colby.edu, 207-859-4905).
- No food or drink is allowed in any of the athletic facilities, all food and drink is to remain in the designated area.
- It is not permissible to remove and or relocate furniture throughout the building.
- No kitchens are available for food preparation onsite- ready to serve meals are encouraged for all indoor tailgating activities and post-game meals.
- Crock pots are permissible- but only one crock pot per circuit can be plugged in.
- Individuals hosting the tailgate are responsible for cleaning the room, and removing all trash and placing it in the dumpsters outside of the building.
- Alcohol is strictly prohibited at all indoor venues and spaces.
Other
- Those violating any law or Colby policy are subject to removal from the tailgating area or College property, legal penalties, and/or college judicial action.
- Common courtesy is expected of all those who attend a Colby College sporting event.
