Waterville, Maine - The Colby Field Hockey team opened its 2026 campaign in commanding fashion on Tuesday night, cruising to a 9-0 shutout victory over Husson University at Bill Alfond Field.
The Mules came out firing from the opening whistle, outshooting the Eagles 28-2 overall and establishing a dominant 15-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Colby set the tone early with first-quarter goals from Hadley Swenson and Christina Sweeney to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Mules then completely put the game out of reach in the second frame, unleashing a four-goal burst that pushed the margin to 6-0 heading into halftime.
Sweeney and Bridget Everett led the charge on offense, each pacing the Mules with two goals on the evening. Charlotte Michener, Rose Memmolo, Celia Zinman, and Alex Hood also found the back of the net to round out a balanced, multi-faceted attack that saw seven different Mules score.
In goal, Ginna Jacoby played the first 30 minutes to record the win before giving way to Liz Luong, who completed the combined team shutout. With the win, Colby opens the season at 1-0.
The Mules turn their attention to NESCAC play on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they travel to face a strong opponent in #2 Tufts University.
