Lewiston, Maine - The Colby College Women's Tennis team launched its fall season over the weekend with strong performances against host Bates College, Trinity College and Vassar College at the two-day Bates Hidden Duals.

The Mules set the tone early in doubles competition. Ella Novion and Emma Jani earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles against Bates and a 6-1 win against Trinity, while Soumya Wijesekera and Ella Wertz added a dominant 6-1 win against the host Bobcats. Colby capped doubles play against Trinity with a full sweep, getting victories from Novion and Jani (6-1), Wertz and Michaela Landry (6-2), and Tina Barrow and Wijesekera (6-2).

In singles play, Novion anchored the top flight with an undefeated weekend, highlighted by a tight 7-6 (1), 7-6 (3) victory against Bates and a 4-6, 6-0, 10-7 comeback against Vassar. Barrow and Jani were equally dominant at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, both finishing a flawless 3-0 in singles play across the two days. Wijesekera showed resilience in the middle of the order, pulling out two third-set tiebreaker wins against Bates and Trinity, while Wertz added a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory against the Bantams.

The Mules will build on their opening weekend success as they prepare for the ITA Regionals from October 2 through October 4, hosted by Bowdoin College.
