Atlanta, Ga. - The eighth-ranked Colby Volleyball team capped off a perfect opening weekend in commanding fashion on Saturday, picking up a pair of dominant victories over top-20 opponents to finish 3-0 on day two of the East-West Classic hosted by Emory University.
The Mules opened the day with a 3-1 victory over No. 18 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps before sweeping tournament host No. 17 Emory 3-0 inside Woodruff Arena. Across both matches, Colby's front-row attack and back-line defense consistently wore down two of Division III's premier programs, securing a sweep of three ranked foes across the two-day event.
In the noon matchup against No. 18 CMS, the Mules set the tone with a hard-fought 25-23 victory in set one before bouncing back from a second-set misstep to take the final two frames 25-18 and 25-19. Brady Moseley paced the offense with 14 kills and 12 digs to register a double-double, while Brianna Hazak anchored the defense and service line with 12 kills, 15 digs, and six service aces. Evelyn Kunde posted 10 kills on a hyper-efficient .300 hitting percentage, while Reese Loyd tallied a team-high 19 digs. Gabby Grujic and Sydney DeProfio once again shared setting duties effectively, dishing out 18 assists each to fuel 48 total team kills.
Returning to the court for the afternoon finale, the Mules made quick work of No. 17 Emory, sweeping the host Eagles 25-22, 25-22, 25-18. Moseley led all attackers once again, hammering home 13 kills while hitting .290. Kunde provided another error-less spark in the middle with 10 kills on a .368 clip, and Hazak added 10 kills, 10 digs, and three aces to complete a double-double. Jordan Lee gave Colby a decisive edge from the service line with four aces, while Grujic directed the attack with 20 assists. On defense, Loyd had 10 digs, while Kendall Glover helped control the net with four blocks.
With a 3-0 record to start the 2026 campaign, Colby returns to Waterville for its 2026 home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 16, hosting Maine Maritime Academy at the Margaret M. Crook Center at 6:00 p.m.
