Mules Conclude Regular Season at #21 Williams

Williamstown, Mass. — The Colby Men's Tennis team wrapped up its regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-0 to #21 Williams College at the Hunt Tennis Center. While the Ephs took the victory on their home courts, the Mules continued to show the competitive spirit that has defined their late-season push against ranked NESCAC opponents.

Williams earned the doubles point to open the match, though Colby kept the pressure on at the top of the lineup. The No. 1 pairing of Jason Daly and Marco Ziets-Segura, along with the No. 2 duo of Bilal Asim and Diego Sosa, both battled through tight sets before falling by identical 6-4 scores.

The intensity carried over into singles play, particularly at the No. 1 and No. 5 positions. Daly delivered a marathon performance at the top flight against Simon Volkema. After dropping the first set, Daly roared back to take the second 6-3, forcing a deciding 10-point tiebreaker. In a back-and-forth thriller, Volkema narrowly edged out Daly with a 10-7 score in the decider.

At No. 5 singles, Matthew Jeong went toe-to-toe with Jack Ling in a physical first set that required a tiebreaker. Jeong pushed the Eph senior to the limit but eventually fell 7-6, 6-3. Rhys Spano also showed great resolve at No. 2, battling into a deep second set before a 6-2, 7-6 defeat.

Despite the loss, Colby (6-10, 4-6 NESCAC) has officially secured the No. 7 seed for the upcoming NESCAC Championship. The Mules will now shift their focus to the postseason, where they are set for a quarterfinal match against the No. 2 seeded Bowdoin Polar Bears.
