Hartford, CT. – The Colby College women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on the road Sunday, defeating Trinity College 7-0. With this victory, the Mules have officially secured their place in the upcoming NESCAC tournament.
Colby took control early during the doubles round, sweeping all three flights to earn the opening point. Isabella Suk and Michaela Landry were flawless at the No. 1 position, earning a 6-0 shutout. The No. 2 pairing of Kat Lowy and Soumya Wijesekera secured a 6-3 win, while Jade Finestone and Ella Novion completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Singles play showcased the Mules' depth and resilience, as the team swept all six matches—including four that required come-from-behind efforts. Ella Novion set the tone at the No. 1 flight, rebounding from a set down to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. Michaela Landry provided a clinical 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2, and Soumya Wijesekera ground out a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position.
The bottom half of the lineup displayed incredible poise in pressure situations. At the No. 4 spot, Isabella Suk rallied from a set down to win 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8). Senior Amelie Gal mirrored that effort at the No. 5 position, also coming back to secure a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) victory. At the No. 6 spot, Abby Hess battled through the longest match of the day, overcoming a first-set tiebreaker loss to win 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-4.
The Mules now return to Waterville for a mid-week rivalry match. Colby is scheduled to host Bowdoin College on Wednesday, April 22nd, at the Alfond-Wales Tennis Courts.
