Women’s Lacrosse Cruises to 17-6 Regular-Season Finale Victory Over Roger Williams

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Colby College Women's Lacrosse team put on a clinical display of transition offense and defensive discipline on Sunday afternoon, dismantling Roger Williams University 17-6 at Bill Alfond Field. In their final game of the regular season, the Mules utilized a dominant first-quarter surge and a balanced scoring attack to secure their ninth win of the year.

Key Highlights:

  • Electric Opening Frame: Colby effectively decided the contest in the first 15 minutes, racing out to an 8-1 lead. The Mules' offense was nearly perfect in the opening period, converting on eight of their ten shots.

  • Michener's Scoring Surge: Sophomore Charlotte Michener continued her torrid scoring stretch, netting three goals, including an unassisted beauty in the second quarter. Her relentless pressure on the ride helped Colby maintain a 21-22 clear rate for the game.

  • Kraus and Banks Spark the Field: The Mules' depth was on full display as Olivia Kraus sparked the second unit with two goals and an assist. Freshman Claire Banks added a late exclamation point, burying a goal in the fourth quarter off a clinical feed from Kraus.

  • Defensive Lockdown: The Colby backline was impenetrable for long stretches. The Mules held the Hawks to just one shot in the first quarter and forced 15 total turnovers throughout the match.

  • Dominating the Midfield: Kristin Podgorni controlled the tempo of the game, helping Colby secure a 13-12 advantage in draw controls. The Mules' hustle in the middle third led to a 14-8 advantage in ground balls collected.

Additional contributions came from across the roster, with Madelyn Almgren, Isabel Shurtleff, and the Colby defensive unit ensuring the Hawks never found a rhythm. Goalkeeper Brynna Hall recorded five saves to anchor the 11-goal victory. With the victory, the Mules improve to 9-6 overall. The team now awaits the finalization of the NESCAC tournament bracket to begin their quest for a conference title.
