Waterville, Maine — The Colby Men's Tennis team honored its lone senior
Aidan Kwong in style on Sunday afternoon, battling through a competitive NESCAC clash to defeat Trinity College 4-2. The victory provides a critical boost for the Mules as they jockey for postseason positioning heading into the final week of the regular season.
The Mules seized early momentum by clinching the doubles point. In a display of remarkable consistency, all three Mule pairings earned 6-4 victories. The No. 1 duo of
Marco Ziets-Segura and
Jason Daly, the No. 2 pair of
Bilal Asim and
Diego Sosa, and the No. 3 team of
Matthew Jeong and
Kevin Mortimer each handled their Bantam opponents to give Colby the 1-0 lead heading into singles.
The momentum carried over into the singles flights, where
Jason Daly and
Rhys Spano led the charge at the top of the lineup. Daly engaged in a back-and-forth battle at No. 1, eventually pulling away for a 6-2, 7-6, 7-5 victory. Spano was equally resilient at No. 2, matching Daly's scoreline with a 6-2, 7-6, 7-5 win to put the Mules within striking distance of the team result.
Ziets-Segura provided the decisive fourth point at the No. 5 spot, delivering a dominant 6-1, 6-2 performance to seal the victory. While Trinity managed to pick up points at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, the Mules' early cushion and strength at the top of the ladder proved to be the difference.
With only two games remaining in the regular season, every conference match carries significant weight for NESCAC tournament seeding. The Mules will look to carry the energy from Senior Day into their final two contests as they push for a position in the postseason.
