Singles Dominance Ignites Comeback Win Over Conn. College

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Tennis team displayed impressive resolve on Sunday afternoon, storming back from an early deficit to defeat Conn. College 5-2 at the Alfond-Wales Courts. The Mules are now 5-6 on the season and 3-2 in NESCAC play.

The Camels jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the match by securing the doubles point. While Bilal Asim and Diego Sosa Rodriguez earned a convincing 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot, Conn. managed to edge out the Mules in tightly contested matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to take the opening advantage.

Refusing to let the early momentum shift dictate the outcome, Colby took command as the match moved into singles play. The Mules won five of the six singles matches, including four in straight sets. Jason Daly led the charge at the top flight, dispatching his opponent 6-3, 6-2 to level the score. Asim and Marco Ziets-Segura followed with clinical performances at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, giving the Mules the lead.

The depth of the lineup proved to be the difference maker in the closing stages. Sosa Rodriguez outlasted his opponent in a hard-fought battle at the No. 3 position, while Matthew Jeong finalized the 5-2 victory at the No. 6 spot. After dropping the first set, Jeong stayed composed to battle back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 comeback win to cap off a successful afternoon in Waterville.

Colby returns to action on Thursday, April 16th when they travel to Brunswick to take on Bowdoin.
