Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Colby Battles Through Grueling Sets in 6-1 Defeat to Wesleyan

Waterville, Maine - Despite several marathon matches and a win at the top doubles flight, the Colby Men's Tennis team fell to Wesleyan University 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Mules are now 4-6 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Colby started the day with high energy in doubles play. The No. 1 duo of Jason Daly and Marco Ziets-Segura delivered a statement win, defeating thier pair of opponents 6-3. However, the Cardinals managed to secure the doubles point by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 matches with identical 6-4 scores, giving them the early 1-0 lead.

Singles play was defined by long, physical battles as the Mules pushed the Cardinals to three sets in three separate matches. At the No. 1 spot, Daly bounced back from a first-set loss to take the second set 6-3 before eventually falling in the third. Bilal Asim showcased similar resilience at No. 4, rallying to win his second set 6-2 to force a decider, but could not overcome his opponent in the final frame.

The match of the day took place at the No. 6 position, where Ziets-Segura and M. Litton traded blows in a thriller. After taking the first set 6-2, Ziets-Segura dropped the second but pushed the third to a 5-5 deadlock before Litton pulled away to clinch the 7-5 win. At No. 5, Antonio Lee was locked in a tight battle and led his first set 6-4 before being forced to retire in the second set.

The Mules will now look to bounce back tomorrow, Sunday, April 12, as they host Connecticut College at 2:00 PM.
