Springfield, Mass. - The Colby College Men's Lacrosse team played Springfield College on Sunday afternoon for a non-conference match up. Coming out with a dominant first quarter and 11 different goal scorers, the Mules found their first win of the 2026 season, 15-8 over Springfield. Colby now stands 1-2 overall.
In the first quarter, first-year
James Counselman opened up the scoring for the Mules, finding his first of the season just under four minutes into the game. Junior
Matthew Trimmer also found his first goal of the season just 10 seconds later, giving the Mules a 2-0 lead. Junior
Gavin Rothenberg netted two more for Colby, followed by one a piece from
Matthew George and
Joey Hagerty, as the Mules took a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes, out-shooting Springfield 12 to four. Springfield didn't let up in the second as they scored three goals compared to Colby's one, coming from first-year
Eli Chilicki.
As the Mules entered the second half up 7-3, Springfield scored two more goals, but Colby answered back with six more goals coming from
Easton Bello,
Rusty Chandler, Chilicki,
Drew Gannon,
Will Steele, and Hagerty. Colby opened up the last quarter with two goals from first-year
Matias Williams and a third from Chilicki. Springfield out shot the Mules eight to four in the last 15 minutes, also scoring three more goals before the end of the game, but with their strong first quarter Colby finished on top with a 15-8 win. Chilicki recorded his first career hat trick while Rothenberg tallied five points on two goals and three assists. Senior
Will Heisler made 17 saves and recorded his first win of the season, and
Zachary Parks made three saves in the final quarter of play.Â
Colby next on Saturday against Wesleyan at 12pm for their home-opener.
