CLERMONT, Fla. - The Colby College softball team picked up a pair of victories on Wednesday at the Spring Games, by shutting out Oberlin College, 14-0, before defeating Kalamazoo College, 12–5, to improve to 10-1 on the season.
Colby 14, Oberlin 0 (6 Innings):
The Mules' offense erupted in the first game of the day, scoring season-high 14 runs on a season-high 15 hits to secure the run-rule win over Oberlin (11-5).
The Mules came out swinging in the opening frame, scoring early on an RBI single to left field by junior
Juliana Kiley. Colby (10-1) scored again in the second inning, with a line drive double to right center by senior
Kathryne Clay to take a 2-0 lead. Colby added single runs in the third and fourth innings off an RBI double by junior
Ella Wilcox and an RBI triple by senior
Carissa Cassidy for a 4-0 advantage.
The Mules broke open the game in the sixth, scoring ten runs off six hits and two Oberlin errors. Senior
Kelsey Sullivan led off the inning with a single to left center, advanced to second after Clay was issued a walk before junior
Kat Xiong loaded the bases with an infield single. Sullivan scored the inning's first run on an RBI single up the middle by Cassidy before senior
Emma Burnham was hit by the pitch plating Clay to make the game 6-0.
Xiong scored the Mules third run of the inning after Wilcox was issued a bases loaded walk. Kiley reached base on a Yeobie fielding error that allowed Cassidy to cross home plate before freshman

Julia Berry entered the game as pinch runners. Junior
Caroline DeSimone then proceeded to take advantage of her nine pitch at-bat to give the Mules a 12-0 lead. On the ninth pitch she saw, DeSimone sent it over the centerfield wall for a grand slam home run.

Sophia Meade retired Oberlin in order in the bottom half of the frame to secure the 14-0 victory.
Cassidy finished the game 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Sullivan added two hits and DeSimone contributed four RBI in the win.
In the circle, senior
KC DeSarno earned her fifth win of the season after allowing three hits in four shutout innings. Meade retired all six batters she faced in her two innings of relief work with one strikeout.
Colby 12, Kalamazoo 5:
Colby used timely power and strong pitching to secure the second victory of the day.
After a scoreless top of the first, Kalamzoo (0-14) took an early lead in the bottom of the frame on a three-run home run to left field. The Hornets led 3-1 after two innings before Colby erupted for eight runs in the top of the third.
Back-to-back infield singles by Cassidy and Burnham to begin the inning put runners on first and second for Wilcox, who then proceeded to rip a single down the right field line that brought home Cassidy with the first run of the inning for the Mules and advanced Burnham to third. A throwing error allowed Wilcox to move into scoring position before Kiley singled down left field line, scoring both Wilcox and Burnham to give the Mules a 4-3 lead.

Lyman scored Colby's lone run in the second off a fielder's choice by Hammel.
Kalamazoo cut into the deficit with two runs in the fourth but couldn't get any closer as Kiley added three in the seventh on a home run down the left field line to go up 12-5.
Wilcox went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored while Kiley drove in a career-high five runs in the victory.
In the circle, Stazinski allowed two earned runs off nine hits in six innings of work with three strikeouts to earn her third victory of the season. Meade, who started the game, allowed three earned runs of two hits in her lone inning of work.
Colby closes out its participation in the Spring Games on Thursday with matchups against St. Lawrence University and Augustana College (Ill.) beginning at 10 a.m.
