Davenport, Fla. - The Colby College Baseball Team extended its winning streak on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against St. Olaf College at Northeast Regional Park. The Mules took the opening game with a commanding 16-7 victory before clinching the sweep with a 4-3 walk-off win in the nightcap.
Game 1: Colby 16, St. Olaf 7
The Mules' offense ignited early in the first contest, scoring in six of the seven innings. Colby jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from
Myles Oo. After St. Olaf cut the deficit to 7-5 in the third, Colby's bats responded to pull away.
Myles Gythfeldt led the charge, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI, including a two-run triple in the seventh inning.
Patrick Shrake contributed significantly with three hits and three runs, while
Will Burns and
Tony Silva each drove in two runs.
Corey Aubuchon was a constant threat, reaching base four times and scoring three runs.
On the mound,
Aidan Aggarwal earned the win in relief, providing stability as the Mules' offense poured on six insurance runs in the final frame to seal the victory.
Game 2: Colby 4, St. Olaf 3
The second game proved to be a tighter defensive battle. Silva provided the early highlights for the Mules, launching a solo home run to left field in the third inning and adding an RBI single in the fourth to give Colby a 2-1 lead.
St. Olaf rallied in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead, but the Mules showed their resilience in the late innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Burns stepped up with a clutch RBI single to center field, scoring
Ellis Lynch-Kahn to tie the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Colby completed the comeback in dramatic fashion. With runners on second and third, a wild pitch allowed Gythfeldt to race home for the winning run, securing the 4-3 victory and the twin-bill sweep.
Colby returns to action Sunday as they continue their spring break schedule in Florida against University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
