Mules Lose Tough Battle Against UW-La Crosse in Spring Training

Davenport, Fla. - The Colby College Baseball Team continued its spring slate on Sunday, facing off against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at the Northeast Regional Park. Despite a 12-2 final score in favor of the Eagles, the Mules' lineup demonstrated consistency at the plate, matching several of their opponent's early efforts and showing flashes of offensive production throughout the contest.

Colby's offense was paced by Myles Gythfeldt, who put together a perfect day at the plate. Gythfeldt finished the afternoon 2-for-2 with an RBI, proving to be a tough out for the UW-La Crosse pitching staff. He was responsible for driving in the Mules' second run of the game in the sixth inning, a sharp single that brought home Will Burns.

The Mules first got on the board in the top of the second inning. After Myles Oo and Gythfeldt reached base with back-to-back singles, Oo showcased speedy base running by advancing on a passed ball and eventually crossing home plate on a wild pitch to cut the early deficit.

Several other Mules contributed to Colby's six-hit total. Patrick Shrake set the tone early with a single in the first inning, while Tony Silva and Liam Shea-Gallagher each added hits to keep the pressure on the Eagles' defense. Burns also showed a disciplined eye at the plate, drawing a walk and eventually scoring one of the Mules' two runs.

On the mound, Aidan Murray provided a bright spot in relief. Entering the game in the sixth inning, Murray was dominant, retiring both batters he faced via the strikeout to halt the Eagles' momentum and keep them off the board in the final frame.

Colby (9-4) will look to build on these individual performances as they take on Union College on Tuesday to continue their spring training in Florida.
