Colby Earns Redemption with Thrilling 5–4 Upset of Bowdoin, Climbing National Rankings

Philadelphia, PA - In their final match of the season, the Mules delivered when it mattered most, upsetting the Polar Bears in a thrilling 5–4, down-to-the-wire victory to capture the consolation bracket and boost their national ranking.

After falling to Bowdoin earlier this season, and in the same spot at nationals last year, Colby entered the match hungry for redemption. Steady and consistent all season, seniors Laavanya Kugan '26, Nathalie Sim '27, and Abhisheka David '26 closed their collegiate careers in dominant fashion, accounting for three of the team's five wins. Kugan battled through a grueling 14–12 opening game before sealing her final collegiate match with commanding 11–6 and 11–8 victories. Sim was clinical and efficient, cruising to a decisive 3–0 win in under 20 minutes. David surged ahead in the first two games, including a tight 14–12 second, before dropping the third and fourth. Undeterred, she responded with a powerful 11–7 fifth-game performance to secure a critical point for the Mules.

The final two victories came from the middle of the lineup, where sophomores Maggie Motch '28 and Haley Coon '28 delivered under pressure. Motch opened in dominant fashion with 11–4 and 11–1 wins. In a tense third game, she fought off four game balls before closing out an 18–16 thriller. Coon faced a back-and-forth battle after narrowly dropping the first game 11–9. The two players traded games, and down 2–1, Coon dug deep to force a fifth. In front of a packed crowd, she emerged victorious in a gritty 45-minute match, clinching the decisive point.

The statement win caps off a successful season for the Mules and sends them into the offseason with momentum and confidence. With a strong core returning and a resilient senior class leaving its mark, the future looks bright.
