Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Falls to No.1 Jumbos in Season Opener

Medford, Mass. - The Colby College Men's Lacrosse team played their first game of the 2025 season against the Tufts Jumbos on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately the Jumbos took the lead early in the first quarter, finishing with a 17-8 win over the Mules, starting off their season 0-1.

The #1 ranked Jumbos and reigning national champions took an early lead over the Mules, out-scoring them 6-2 in the first quarter, despite both teams finding equal shot opportunities on net. Matthew George opened up the scoring for the Mules, assisted by James Counselman in the first quarter. Junior Gavin Rothenberg also found the back of the net in the first, coming off of a 40-point season in 2025. Colby held Tufts to a tighter game in the second quarter, only allowing two more goals despite being out-shot ten to four, and sophomore Thacher McCoy found his first of the season as well.

Entering the second half down 8-4, the Mules fought to stay in the game against a strong Jumbos offense, but it wasn't enough as Colby let up six more in the third quarter and only found the back of the net once offensively. In the final 15 minutes of the game, the Mules out-scored the Jumbos 4-3, but it wasn't enough as Tufts finished on top with a 17-8 win in the first game of the season. Senior Will Heisler recorded 22 saves for the Mules through 60 minutes. Rothenberg and McCoy both scored two goals each for Colby. Of other notable players, Daniel O'Connor, Eli Chilicki, Matias Williams, and George each recorded one goal each.

Colby is back in action Saturday at Williams College at 12pm.
