Mules Lose to Williams on the Road

Williamstown, Mass. - The Colby College Men's Lacrosse team faced the Ephs of Williams College on Saturday afternoon. The Mules played a tough game, but Williams took the lead early in the game and held onto it, finishing with an 18-10 win over the Mules. Colby now stands 0-2 overall.

In the first quarter, Williams came out strong against Colby, taking a 6-1 lead after the first 15 minutes, sophomore Will Steele starting off the scoring for the Mules on a man-up opportunity. In an evenly matched second quarter, junior Gavin Rothenberg found the back of the net first, scoring his third of the season. The Ephs scored two more goals, taking a 8-2 lead, but the Mules answered back with two to end the second, coming from Steele and first-year Daniel O'Connor. Williams scored one more goal with 18 seconds to play, entering the second half with a 9-4 lead.

In the second half, Williams scored first, quickly followed by a Mules goal from first-year Joey Hagerty, his first career goal. The Ephs netted two more against the Mules, and first-year Eli Chilicki scored a man-up goal for Colby, his second of the season. Unfortunately Williams scored one more to end the third quarter, as they held their 13-6 lead entering the fourth. In a high-scoring fourth quarter, the Mules didn't let up, out-shooting the Ephs eight to five, scoring four more goals coming from Cormac Wright, Easton Bello, and two from Jacob Thibodeau. Despite Colby's final push in the last quarter, Williams finished on top with an 18-10 win over the Mules.

Steele and Thibodeau led Colby with two goals each, and five Mules scored their first of the season during the game. Senior Will Heisler recorded eight saves through three quarters of play, and first-year Zachary Parks made his collegiate-debut in the fourth quarter.

Colby is back in action Sunday at Springfield College at 12pm for their first non-conference match up of the season.
