Mules Start Season Swinging With Double Header Sweep of UMF

Waterville, ME - The Colby College Mules (2-0) swept the University of Maine - Farmington Beavers (0-2) in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at Coombs Field. Colby took game one by a score of 14-1 and completed the sweep with a 4-0 win in game two.

  • Game One Mule Moments:
  • Colby broke the game open in the second inning with six runs, highlighted by RBI hits from Corey Aubuchon and Myles Gythfeldt.
  • Jeb Burkhart delivered a two-run double as part of the second-inning surge.
  • Liam Shea-Gallagher had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored.
  • Tony Silva drove in three runs, including a two-RBI single in the third inning, and also scored twice. 
  • Patrick Shrake sparked the third inning with a single, a stolen base, and a steal of home to push the lead to 7-0.
  • Thomas Rioux (W, 1-0) earned the win with four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
  • The Beavers got on the board in the seventh inning on an RBI single from S. Parsell.

Game Two Mule Moments:

  • Patrick Shrake opened the scoring in the second inning with an RBI single up the middle to bring home Burkhart. 
  • Colby added two more in the fourth when Tony Silva lined a two-run single to left field, scoring Corey Aubuchon and Shrake.
  • Henry Silva tacked on an insurance run in the fifth with an RBI single to left to score Duncan Cullinane.
  • Keeler Vogt (W, 1-0) was sharp on the mound, throwing five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts while allowing just two hits.
  • Matt Higgins finished the shutout with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts as Colby's pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts.

The Mules will return to action on March 7 to take on Endicott College at home.
