Waterville, ME - The Colby Women's Squash Team opened Maine Championship Weekend in emphatic fashion, sweeping rival Bates in a high-energy NESCAC showdown on Senior Day.
Colby was dominant from top to bottom, dropping just two games across the entire lineup. The Mules jumped out to an early lead as Haley Coon '28 and Gigi McWhorter '29 each earned straight-game victories, both recording 11–0 games along the way. McWhorter was particularly clinical, holding her opponent scoreless in two of the three games.
Momentum continued through the middle of the order as seniors Nat Sim '26, Abhisheka David '26, and Amanda Miller '26 delivered commanding 3–0 wins, closing out their final home matches in triumphant fashion. Later in the afternoon, Tori Thill '28 showed resilience, battling back from a 5–10 deficit in the third game to secure Colby's sixth victory of the day.
At the top spot, senior Laavanya Kugan '26 responded to a narrow 9-11 first-game loss by taking the next three games, capped by a decisive 11–3 forth game. In the four spot, Maggie Motch '28 displayed impressive mental toughness, rebounding from a 12-14 opening-game loss and a tight 13–11 second game win before closing out the match with commanding 11–5 and 11–2 victories to seal the Mules' 9–0 sweep.
Colby returns to action tomorrow at Bowdoin for the College Squash Association Match of the Week and the deciding contest of the inaugural Maine Championship Weekend.
