Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team faced the Mammoths of Amherst College on Friday evening. While Amherst took the lead in the first period, Colby struggled to take their lead and ended with a 4-2 win. The Mules now stand 9-8-2 overall and 5-7-1 in the NESCAC.
The Mules came out strong to start the game, out shooting the Mammoths 15 to seven in the first, but Amherst found the back of the net first at 10:29. Colby answered back less than a minute later with an unassisted goal from
Colby Browne, his 15th of the season. While the Mules continued to dominate the game with 12 more shots on goal in the second period, Amherst regained their lead at 15:43, entering the third up 2-1.
In the third, Browne tied up the score 2-2 with his second of the game, assisted by
Wyatt Schmidek and
Connor Gallagher at 8:29. The Mammoths answered back with a 5-on-3 power play goal against the Mules. Despite Colby's effort with an empty net at the end of the game, Amherst found the back of the net to finish with a 4-2 win. Sophomore
Cooper Rautenstrauch recorded 22 saves for the Mules.
The Mules play again Saturday afternoon at home against Hamilton at 3pm.
