Amherst, Mass. - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced the #2 Mammoths of Amherst College in a Friday night NESCAC showdown. With a dominant defensive effort and a stellar performance in goal, the Mules earned a 2-0 victory, improving their overall record to 14-4-0.
Colby wasted no time getting on the board, as just 57 seconds into the game,
Courtney Schumacher buried the first shot of the night to give the Mules an early 1-0 lead with assists from
Maria Pierce and
Marion Legge. The remainder of the period featured fast-paced, back-and-forth play, with Colby totaling 14 shots and winning eight faceoffs. Goaltender
Ally Martiniello made 14 saves to keep Amherst scoreless. Entering the second period with a one-goal advantage, the Mules looked to maintain their momentum. Amherst applied consistent offensive pressure, but Colby remained composed. At 12:20,
Addie Paskowski doubled the Mules' lead with a goal assisted by
Molly Lefebvre and
Kayleigh Michaud-Nolan. Although Amherst outshot Colby 34-11 in the period, Colby's defense stood strong, and Martiniello added another 15 saves. The third period continued to feature intense play on both ends of the ice. Amherst pushed hard to break through, firing 27 shots compared to Colby's seven, but the Mules' defensive remained unstoppable. Martiniello capped off her outstanding night with 10 more saves, finishing with a season-high of 34 to secure the shutout. Paskowski led the Mules offensively with one goal and five shots.Â
Colby will look to complete the weekend sweep when they rematch Amherst tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
