Clinton, NY - In the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Championship, the seventh-seeded Colby Women's Squash team fell to second-seeded Amherst, 8–1.
Having faced Amherst earlier this season, the Mules knew the rematch would be a challenge. The lone victory of the afternoon came from Nathalie Sim '27. After dropping a tight five-game battle in their previous meeting, Sim entered determined to flip the script. She opened in dominant fashion with an 11–3 win in the first game, but after surrendering the next two, regrouped with poise and precision. Sim responded with commanding 11–6 and 11–7 wins in the fourth and fifth games to secure the comeback. Her performance showcased impressive mental toughness and smart decision-making in crucial moments.
Laavanya Kugan '26 also delivered a gritty performance at the number one spot. After narrowly dropping the first two games, she fought back to take the third and pushed the fourth to a dramatic 10–12 finish before ultimately falling short. Abhisheka David '26 showed similar resilience. After losing the opening two games, she battled back to claim a tight 12–10 third game, but could not complete the comeback.
Across the lineup, the match featured several nail-biting rallies and closely contested games. The sophomores showed up in full force as Maggie Motch '28, Reshika Rajarathinam '28, and Tori Thill '28 each pushed their opponents in competitive 11–8 games, while Haley Coon '28 forced a tight 11–9 opening game in her match.
The Mules will now turn their focus to the College Squash Association National Championship, set to begin on February 27 in Philadelphia, as they look to build on lessons learned throughout the season.
