Mules Punch Ticket to Consolation Finals with 7-2 Win Over Wesleyan

Philadelphia, PA - In a high-stakes, win or go home, NESCAC battle, the Colby Women's Squash team delivered a commanding 7-2 victory over Wesleyan to punch their ticket to the consolation bracket finals.

The Mules entered the courts hungry for a win against the Cardinals, and they didn't waste time establishing control. In the opening round, Tori Thill '28 set the tone with a decisive 3-0 sweep. After a dominant first game, Thill showed composure in the clutch to secure a tight 12-10 second game before closing out the match 11-6. Laavanya Kugan '26 mirrored that intensity, putting together a clinical 3-0 performance in just 22 minutes. The round's final win came from Amanda Miller '26, who showcased incredible resilience; after dropping the first game 2-11, Miller battled through injury to force a fifth set, ultimately clinching it 11-9.

The second round of matches capitalized on that early momentum. Haley Coon '28, eager to avenge a previous loss to the same opponent, came out firing with an 11-2 opening game. She displayed immense grit to take a marathon 13-11 second game and, after a brief third-game slip, slammed the door with an 11-6 win in the fourth. Meanwhile, Reshika Rajarathinam '28 endured a 45-minute battle. Her match was a masterclass in technique and stamina, highlighted by a grueling 16-14 win in the third game en route to a five-set victory.

The Mules' final two points came from Abhisheka David '26 and Maggie Motch '28. David was efficient and dominant, improving on her previous outing against the Cardinals by securing a 3-0 sweep in under 20 minutes. Motch provided the exclamation point in the final match of the day; after split sets early on, she regained control to win in four, sealing the seventh and final point for Colby.

The Mules return to action tomorrow at 9:00 AM for the consolation bracket finals, where they will face off against their NESCAC and in-state rival, Bowdoin.
