Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Soccer team fell Tuesday in a tough NESCAC battle with rival Bates 1-0.
Colby saw an elite performance in goal from Jackson Magee throughout the contest. Despite a lone goal in the first half, Magee was spectacular for the Mules, recording six total saves and even denying back-to-back penalty kick attempts. Colby's defensive core composed of Jacob Sams and Theo Scott held steady under heavy early pressure, allowing the Mules to weather the storm and keep the scoreline tight.
As the match progressed into the second half, Colby completely dictated the tempo, tilting the field and ramping up the pressure on the Bates defense. The Mules controlled possession and won five second-half corner kicks while limiting Bates to just a single shot after the interval. Colby continually pressed forward in search of the equalizer, generating dangerous build-ups through Jude Gussen, Oliver Daboo, and Leo Robison.
The result brings the series matchup between Bates and Colby to an even 4-4-2 in the last 10 years. With both squads edged out of the playoffs, Colby ends their season with a 4-7-4 record while the Bobcats finish at 5-6-4.
