Women’s Hockey Defeats Hamilton 3-2

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced the Continentals of Hamilton College in a thrilling Friday night NESCAC matchup. The Mules fought hard, and after 60 minutes of intense play, they secured a 3-2 victory.

The Mules opened the first period with high energy. Just 5:41 in, Emily Olsthoorn set Colby ahead 1-0 with an assist from Lulu Gray. Hamilton answered at 8:28 to tie the game, but that did not stop the Mules. Less than 10 minutes later, at 17:31, Beth Sinson broke the tie to give Colby a 2-1 lead, assisted by Sophia Kennedy and Megan Martodam. Colby ended the period with 24 total shots, while goaltender Grace Caligiuri made two saves. Entering the second period with a one-goal advantage, Colby was hungry for more. Just 30 seconds into the period on a power play, Courtney Schumacher punched one in for the Mules, assisted by Kennedy and Sinson to extend their lead to 3-1. Despite no additional goals for the remainder of the period, the Mules showed strong efforts, totaling 16 shots, winning 15 of 20 faceoffs, and four more saves from Caligiuri to keep the Continentals off the board. The third period saw plenty of offensive and defensive action from the Mules. Hamilton added a goal at 15:37, but Colby remained ahead 3-2. The Mules earned two more power-play opportunities and added 18 shots in the period for a game total of 58. After strong efforts throughout, Colby held on for the 3-2 win, improving their overall record to 6-2-0. Caligiuri finished with nine total saves, while Olsthoorn led the Mules with seven shots.

Colby will face Hamilton again tomorrow at 3:00 PM as they look to win the series.
