New London, Conn. - The Colby Women's Basketball team opens up conference play beating the Camels of Connecticut College 64-43. Colby is now 8-4 on the season and 1-0 in NESCAC play and the Camels are 8-5 and 0-1 in the conference.
The Mules came out strong, doubling Connecticut's points in the first quarter 18-9 and continuing their lead through the whole game. Colby dominated on the boards grabbing 52 rebounds compared to the 28 of the Camels' and also had 26 points in the paint. With 13 rebounds alone was Amelia Hanscom who added eight points, team high three assists, and a block. Lauren Cho added the other block of the pair. Colby did not pump the brakes and was able to score 10 points off of fast breaks and had 15 points contributed by the bench.
The Mules once again had contributions from every player on the court showing their depth and determination. Lydia Mordarski did not shy away from the basket tonight scoring a team high of 21 points and shared the wealth through two assists in addition to her four rebounds. Katie Olenik followed behind with 12 points and another two assists plus five rebounds. Brooke Braen threw in two points and tied with one for team high steals with Shea Donnelly, who followed through defensively with three rebounds as well. Eight more points were added to the board by Ana Von Rumohr who had five rebounds and an assist.
The Mules continue NESCAC play tomorrow facing Tufts University in Medford Massachusetts at 3:00 PM.
