Waterville, Maine. - The Colby Women's Basketball team started the week off strong beating the Engineers of MIT 63-48. This advances the Mules to a 7-4 record and MIT drops to 4-8.
This game was neck and neck coming down to the hustle on every play. Colby was outscored by one in the first quarter, but went into the second half leading by 11. As the Engineers tried to fight their way back and scored 28 points in the second half, the Mules did not back down and pulled out the 63-48 win with their largest leading being 17 points in the third quarter. The third quarter turned out to be a big one when junior Kate Olenik cemented her name in the books for Colby recording her 1000th career point on an unassisted, behind the back layup. Olenik is only the 20th Colby Women's Basketball player to reach this milestone. That layup wasn't the only action in the lane as the Mules snagged 38 points in the paint and dominated the boards with 42 rebounds. Backing up onto the free throw line Colby went 100% shooting in the second and third quarter and 78% in the fourth and were relentless in their play scoring 16 second chance points.Â
Amelia Hanscom was a star on the court tonight dropping a team high twenty points and leading with nine rebounds and two assists plus adding two steals onto that resume as well.
