Women’s Hockey Sweeps Trinity College with Two Dominant Victories

Hartford, Conn. - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team completed a weekend sweep of Trinity College this afternoon, following up Friday night's 8-0 shutout with another dominant performance. The Mules maintained their high intensity on both ends of the ice to secure the 4-1 win, improving their overall record to 13- 4-0.

Colby wasted no time getting on the board, striking just 0:41 into the game when Courtney Schumacher put the Mules ahead 1-0. The Mules kept the pressure on, adding another at 2:08 as Emily Olsthoorn found the back of the net, assisted by Brooke Eselunas. The Eselunas-Olsthoorn connection struck again at 4:39, giving Colby a 3-0 lead in under five minutes of play. Colby outshot the Bantams 27-7 in the opening period and earned three power-play opportunities. Goaltender Ally Martiniello set the tone early, making three saves to keep Trinity off the board as they headed into the second period. Despite a scoreless second period, the Mules continued to show strong energy and effort on both ends of the ice. After back-and-forth play, Colby totaled 16 shots and won eight faceoffs, while Martiniello added five more saves to maintain the shutout. Colby battled hard in the third period, earning a power-play opportunity just 35 seconds in. The Mules earned another power play at 3:29 and at 5:10, Allie Corrieri capitalized to extend Colby's lead to 4-0, assisted by Meagn Martodam. Trinity answered with a power-play goal at 9:50, but Colby remained composed and shut down any further scoring chances for the remainder of the game. The Mules fired 18 shots in the third period, finishing with 61 shots overall and five power-play opportunities in just the third period. In goal, Martiniello made five additional saves to finish with 13 on the day. Offensively, Eselunasand and Olsthoorn each recorded a goal and an assist, while Sophia Kennedy led all players with eight shots. After an intense 60 minue battle, Colby secured the 4-1 victory.

The Mules are on the road again next weekend to face Amherst College on Friday at 7:00 PM.
