Amherst, Mass. - The Colby Men's Basketball team nearly stole a road win Friday night, but the Mules came up just short in a 65-64 battle at Amherst. Colby controlled long stretches of the game, led by as many as 14 points in the first half, and had the ball in the final seconds with a chance to win before the Mammoths escaped.
The Mules were sharp early, shooting 61% from the field in the opening half and knocking down four threes to take a narrow 38-37 lead into the break. Colby continued to battle throughout a second half that featured consistent lead changes, keeping Amherst on its heels. Defensively, the Mules held the Mammoths to just 34.6% shooting on the night. Down one in the closing moments after two made Amherst free throws, Colby could not execute a clean look to escape with a road victory.
Dan Civello fueled the offense with a team-high 17 points, attacking the rim and finishing a perfect 6–6 at the free-throw line.
Theo Pow delivered a huge spark off the bench with 12 points and six rebounds in just 16 minutes of play.
Max Poulton contributed across the board with nine points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Sam Hinman rounded out the double digit scorers netting 10.
The Mules moves to 13-6 on the season and 1-4 in NESCAC play. Following the heart breaking one point loss, Colby will look to bounce back tomorrow at Hamilton.
