Utica, N.Y. - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland on the first day of the Utica Tournament. Despite strong efforts, the Mules fell 2-1 in a sudden-death overtime battle.
Despite a scoreless first period, the Mules showed a strong performance. They totaled 16 shots, earned a power-play opportunity, and goaltender
Ally Martiniello made two saves to keep the Red Dragons from setting the lead. The Mules' offense dominated the second period with 20 total shots. At 7:19,
Lulu Gray put Colby up 1-0, assisted by
Courtney Schumacher and
Breanna Studley. The Mules held strong for the remainder of the period, with five more saves from Martiniello. Entering the third period leading by one, the Mules were determined to keep their lead. They fired 14 more shots, won nine faceoffs, and earned another power-play opportunity. With just 37 seconds left to play, SUNY Cortland leveled the score to force overtime. Despite the overtime loss, the Mules showed strong effort and determination. Martiniello finished with 10 total saves, and Studley led the team with six shots on goal.

The Mules will next face Utica University tomorrow afternoon to compete for third place in the Utica Championship.
