Mules Dominate Nichols College 8-3

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team hosted Nichols College for a midweek non-conference matchup and delivered an offensive explosion, earning an 8-3 victory. The Mules scored eight goals from seven different players, with 11 players recording assists in a dominant team performance.

Despite a scoreless first period, Colby controlled the pace of play from the opening puck drop. The Mules outshot Nichols 22-4 in the opening period and earned a power-play opportunity. Goaltender Grace Caligiuri made two saves to keep Nichols off the board as they headed into the first intermission. Nichols struck first just 23 seconds into the second period, but Colby responded quickly. At 4:28, Emily Olsthoorn tied the game 1-1 to open the scoring for the Mules. Colby continued to dominate possession, totaling 34 shots in the period and winning 13 of 19 faceoffs. At 8:06, Molly Lefebvre gave Colby the lead with assists from Mallory Farrell and Addie Paskowski. Less than two minutes later, at 9:57, Jo Tattersall extended the lead, assisted by Lizzy Hamel and Lulu Gray. The Mules were not finished, as Sophia Kennedy made it 4-1 at 12:26, with assists from Abby Tattersall and Beth Sinson. Both Caligiuri and Serafina Applegate saw time in net during the second period, combining for seven saves. Entering the third period with a three-goal lead, the Mules remained relentless. Nichols scored twice early at 2:24 and 4:10, but Colby answered immediately. At 5:58, Kayleigh Michaud-Nolan scored her first collegiate goal to restore the three-goal advantage, assisted by Julie Jasaitis and Jo Tattersall. Just over two minutes later, at 8:17, Sophie Melsness made it 6-3, with assists from Michaud-Nolan and Paskowski. At 16:12, Olsthoorn netted her second of the game, assisted by Michaud-Nolan and Sinson, before Lizzy Hamel capped off the scoring at 18:40 with assists from Brooke Eselunas and Allie Corrieri. Colby fired 28 shots in the third period, finishing the game with 84 total shots. Caligiuri ended with six saves, while Applegate ended with seven. Olsthoorn led the Mules with 10 shots and two goals, while Michaud-Nolan also recorded one goal, two assists, and seven shots. The Mules' strong offensive and defensive efforts led them to the impressive 8-3 victory. 

The Mules will head down to Trinity College for a NESCAC matchup on Friday night at 7:00PM.
