Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Basketball team headed to the Ocean State Thursday night to take on Rhode Island College in their second to last non-conference battle of the season. The Mules came out on top 76-63 pushing their overall record to 11-3 while the Anchormen fall to 8-7.
Colby shot a respectful 45 percent from the field and knocked down 13 three pointers overall, turning a six-point halftime edge into a comfortable victory.
Dan Civello continues his stellar sophomore season leading all scorers with 19 points in the contest.
Max Poulton added 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while
Sam Hinman posted a balanced line with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists. The Mules also received a major lift from the bench, as
Matthew Lamy scored a season high 11 points and
Nate Kwiecinski added eight points and seven boards.
The two teams traded six lead changes in the opening 11 minutes before Colby closed the half up 39–33. The Mules defense held the Anchormen to just a 21.9 shooting percent from deep and 32.8 shooting percentage overall. Colby's depth was also a big factor in the final result outscoring RIC 32–15 in bench points while the team held a 41–34 rebound advantage.
The Mules will return home Sunday, January 18th at 3:00pm for a NESCAC matchup with Bates.
