Box Score Boston, Mass. - The #12 Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced the Rams of Suffolk University for a midweek non-conference matchup. The Mules showed a strong performance, earning a 5-1 win to improve to 8-2-0 on the season.
The Mules came out with high energy in the opening period. Just 4:36 in,
Megan Martodam opened the scoring for Colby, assisted by
Beth Sinson and
Sophia Kennedy. Suffolk responded at 7:35 to tie the game, but the Mules quickly regained momentum. On a power play at 16:21,
Sophia Kennedy found the back of the net with assists from
Emily Olsthoorn and
Jo Tattersall. Just over three minutes later at 19:34, Martodam scored her second of the period, assisted by Kennedy and Sinson, giving Colby a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Goaltender
Ally Martiniello made several key saves to keep the Rams from gaining momentum. Colby continued to show their strength in the second period. Just 1:21 in,
Courtney Schumacher extended the Mules' lead to make it a 4-1 game. Suffolk earned power-play opportunities throughout the period, but Colby's defense held strong. At 17:58, Kennedy struck again on a power play, scoring her second goal of the night with assists from Schumacher and Olsthoorn to make it 5-1. The third period saw strong defensive play from the Mules, as they held Suffolk scoreless for the remainder of the game. Colby continued to apply offensive pressure, totaling 46 shots on goal, while Martiniello finished with 18 saves to secure the win and shutout. Martodam and Kennedy each recorded two goals, while Olsthoorn, Kennedy and Sinson had two assists.
Colby will head down to New London, Connecticut, to face the Cammels of Connecticut College on Friday night at 7:00 PM.
