Waterville, Maine — The Colby College Men's Basketball team used a dominant second half to pull away from the Bowdoin Polar Bears for a 73-59 win on Tuesday night in front of an electric Margaret M. Crook Center crowd. The Mules improve their season record to 11-3 while Bowdoin drops to 10-5.
After trailing 30-27 at halftime following a neck in neck first half, the Mules shot 55 percent in the second half and outscored the Polar Bears 46-29 to claim the victory. At the 11 minute mark of the second frame
Theo Pow threw down a put back dunk sending the crowd into an uproar and ultimately sparking a 13 to 2 run. From that point on Colby held on to the double digit lead.
Both
Dan Civello and
Max Poulton had great performances as they each came up just one rebound short of a double-double. Civello led the Mules with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting while dishing out six assists. Poulton scored 19 points and matched Civello with nine boards.
Sam Hinman also scored in the double digits contributing 10 points and three assists. The Mules' bench chipped in 21 points, highlighted by seven from Pow and six from
Nate Kwiecinski. Colby held a slight 39-35 edge on the glass, generated 16 second-chance points and pushed its lead to as many as 15 with 5:24 remaining. The Mules finished 27-for-60 from the field and 10-for-29 from 3-point range, while limiting Bowdoin to 39 percent shooting in the rivalry victory.
Colby will go on the road Thursday to matchup with Rhode Island College scheduled for a 7:00pm start.
