Hamilton, N.Y. - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team faced the No. 5 ranked Continentals of Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon. After one goal each in the first period, Hamilton scored three unanswered goals to finish with a 4-1 win. The Mules now stand 7-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the NESCAC, ranked fourth.
In the first period Hamilton out shot Colby 14 to four, getting on the board first and taking a 1-0 lead at 13:43. The Mules answered back in the second, as sophomore
Colby Browne tied the game five minutes into the second, assisted by
Noah Carpenter. The Continentals pushed ahead again, taking a 2-1 lead with less than four minutes to play in the second. Colby tallied 11 shots on goal compared to Hamilton's 18.Â
In the third period, the Continentals found the back of the net once again, extending their lead over the Mules to 3-1. Despite Colby's effort in the third with eight shots on goal, they weren't able to get past Hamilton's defense. Hamilton netted their fourth goal with less than two minutes to play, as Colby had an empty net in an attempt to capitalize with an extra skater. Sophomore
Cooper Rautenstrauch recorded 40 saves during the game.
The Mules return home next Friday against Wesleyan at 7pm.
