Amherst, Mass. - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team faced the Amherst Mammoths on Friday evening. In a back and forth game, Colby and Amherst remained tied after 60 minutes, and the Mules capitalized in the shootout, winning their third game in a row in 2026. The Mules now stand 7-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the NESCAC, ranked third.
In a scoreless first period, the Mules were out shot ten to five, and the Mammoths also had two power play opportunities while Colby had none. The second remained tied 0-0 for most of the period, but the Mules got on the board first with a goal from junior Matthew Macdonald assisted by
Jayden Grier and
Connor Gallagher at 14:07.Â
Amherst didn't wait to answer back in the third, scoring two back-to-back goals less than a minute apart, taking their first lead of the game at 2-1. The Mules didn't give up, as Grier tied the game at 7:32 with his second goal of the season, unassisted. While the Mammoths out shot the Mules 21 to three in the third period, the game remained tied after 60 minutes. In the five-minute overtime period, Colby recorded three shots on goal, but couldn't put the game away.

Will Soloway both found the back of the net in the attempts, while sophomore goaltender
Cooper Rautenstrauch only let one of the Mammoth's attempts past him. The Mules ended with a 2-1 win, their first shootout win of the season. Rautenstrauch made 39 saves in the 65-minute game, keeping Colby in the game to ultimately defeat Amherst.Â
Colby is back in action Saturday at Hamilton at 3pm.
