Biddeford, Maine – Colby Volleyball stayed on track to open their 2025 season, sweeping the University of New England 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 25-18) at the Harold Alfond Forum on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Mules improve to 2-0 on the year, while UNE drops to 1-3.
Colby wasted no time in the first set, overpowering the Nor'easters with 19 kills on a .462 hitting percentage. The Mules' offense was clicking from all angles, while the defense held UNE to just five kills and a .174 efficiency. Colby rolled to a dominant 25-8 win to set the tone. The second set was more competitive, as UNE pushed back with 10 kills of their own. Still, Colby's balance at the net and crisp passing extended their edge. Timely kills from Emma Davis and LJ Grant fueled the attack, while Reese Loyd anchored the defense. The Mules pulled away late for a 25-19 win. In the final set, UNE battled to stay alive, but Colby raced to the end with a tightened block and defense, sealing the sweep with a 25-18 victory.
The Mules finished with 49 kills, six aces, three blocks, 45 assists, and 52 digs while hitting .345 as a team. Davis paced the Mules with a match-high 10 kills, while Grant added nine and Brady Moseley chipped in eight. Jordan Lee led the serving line with two aces, while Grant and Allison Rodriguez each added one. Sydney Bopp, Olivia Drayden, and Alexa Peguero contributed one block apiece at the net. Setter Gabby Grujic directed the offense with 27 assists, supported by Loyd with seven and Lee with five. Defensively, Loyd tallied a match-high 17 digs, while Grujic and Alli McKenney contributed nine and six, respectively.
Colby returns home to the Crook Center on Friday, September 5 at 7:00 PM to face the University of Wisconsin–Stout.
