Middlebury, Vt - The Colby Women's Tennis team competed in the ITA Regional Tournament hosted by Middlebury College this past weekend. The tournament featured the top players and teams of the region, with fierce competition throughout.

The first day of ITAs kicked off with doubles, featuring four Colby teams. Senior captain Isabella Suk and first-year Kat Lowy battled hard against a Tufts duo, saving multiple match points, one of which was saved by an ace from Lowy at 6-7 40-40 to make it 7-7, but unfortunately they fell in the tiebreaker. Sophomore Ella Novion and senior captain Amelie Gal won their first match against Babson 8-4 before losing to the Jumbos in the next round.

Singles began later in the day, with three girls in the A draw and five in the B draw. In the A draw, Waka Aida had an amazing win against Amherst closing the match at 6-4 6-3, before falling to Wesleyan in the next round. In the B draw, Soumya Wijesekera opened with a big win against Bowdoin to advance to the round of 32. She then defeated a fellow Mule to move on to Day 2 of ITAs.

Wijesekera kept her momentum rolling with a 6-4 6-3 win against the Mammoths in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, she dominated a 6-4 6-1 victory over Williams to secure her spot in the semifinals. On the final day of ITAs, Wijesekera fought hard against Middlebury but unfortunately fell in the semi's. Reaching the semifinals is an incredible accomplishment for the first-year, with the team looking forward to seeing what they will achieve over the rest of their fall and spring seasons. 

The Mules will continue their fall season competing at Smith College in the NEWITT's tournament starting October 10th.
