Cambridge, Mass. —Colby Volleyball earned a statement victory on Saturday, taking down nationally ranked MIT 3–1 (22–25, 25–20, 25–21, 25–23) inside Rockwell Cage. The Mules dropped a tight opening set but roared back to win three sets, showcasing depth, resilience, and dominant net play. The victory moves Colby to 10–1 overall on the season.
In the first set, MIT came out sharp in the opening frame, capitalizing on errors and siding out at a high clip. Despite strong swings from
Brady Moseley and
Kendall Glover, the Engineers held off a late Mule push to claim the first set, 25–22. Colby flipped the script in set two. The Mules steadied their serve receive and found balance on offense, hitting .139 while holding MIT to just .068.
Reese Loyd's serving run and defensive reads allowed Colby to build a lead and close the set 25–20. The third set was a back-and-forth battle, but the Mules' block emerged as the deciding factor.
Cyanne Jones and Glover combined to shut down MIT's outside attack, and Moseley delivered well-timed kills to keep Colby in control. The Mules sealed the frame 25–21. In the fourth and final set, both teams traded points and equalizing numerous times. MIT looked poised to force a fifth set, but Colby's composure shone through. Jones delivered two key blocks, and
LJ Grant hammered a kill off the block to push Colby ahead and seal the games 25–23.
Overall, the Mules tallied 50 kills, nine aces, 17 blocks, 44 assists, and 66 digs while hitting .170. Colby also out-blocked MIT with 17 blocks against the Engineers's two. First-year
Kendall Glover led the offense with 11 kills, while Moseley and Grant chipped in nine apiece. Jones and Glover were monumental at the net with eight blocks each, supported by Grant's give.
Jordan Lee and
Gabby Grujic combined for 38 assists, while Lee added three service aces. Defensively, Loyd anchored the back row with a match-high 21 digs, followed by Grujic with 13 and Moseley with 11.
Looking Ahead, the Mules return home to Mayflower Hill for a highly anticipated NESCAC game against Bowdoin on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7:00 PM in the Margaret M. Crook Center.
