Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mules' Defensive Efforts Earns 0-0 Draw at Home

Waterville, Maine - As the afternoon light started to fade, the ref blew his whistle to end a strong defensive performance from the Mules. In a highly anticipated matchup against a Tufts side that beat them 2-0 the year before, Colby picked up their first NESCAC points of the year in a 0-0 stalemate. The draw takes the Mules to 2-1-1 overall, and 0-1-1 in NESCAC conference play.

From just looking at the stats sheet, it would've seemed like the Mules escaped with a draw. They were outshot 14-1, with none on goal. In reality, Colby not only played a solid defensive game, but also created chances going forward that, unfortunately, didn't result in registered shots. Oliver Daboo had the lone shot of the game, but the Mules consistently worked the ball deep into the Jumbos' half, looking composed in their build-up play.

Defensively, Colby held off a relentless attack that tested not only the Mules' backline but also goalkeeper Jackson Magee. The sophomore had five saves on the day and was vital in keeping Tufts off the board.

Late in the second half, the Jumbos scored off a cross, which ended up being disallowed for offside. From then on, the game started to open up as both teams committed players forward to push for the winner. Ultimately, tired legs and limited chances kept the last fifteen minutes evenly split to cap off solid performances from both teams.

The Mules are back in action Tuesday, September 16th, as they begin their stretch of road games against non-conference opponent Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
