Waterville, Maine, - Colby had a strong start to the NCAA tournament today, defeating the Gulls of Endicott College 17-1. The Mules will advance to the third round of NCAAs.
Endicott came out swinging with the first goal of the game four minutes in, but it would be the first and last for the Gulls. The Mules answered with two goals of their own before the end of the quarter for a score of 2-1. Colby went on to score a goal every other minute of the quarter in the second, racking up eight additional points for a score of 10-1. Endicott's defense stepped up in the third quarter, establishing an even steeper 14-1 lead. After a three-goal final push, the Mules won 17-1.
Ainsley Dion led the team in goals with four followed closely by
Julia Jardina with three. Three additional players each scored two points, and the remaining three points were each scored by different players.
Gennie Littlejohn led the team in assists with three, then Jardina with two, and
Charlotte Michener with one. Jardina caused three turnovers, then
Kat Munter and
Gretchen Biegel each caused one. Goalkeeper
Gigi Peloso had an outstanding .750 save percentage.
