Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Mules Fall to #14 Tufts

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Tennis team concluded their regular season against #14 ranked Tufts University in the Harold Alfond Athletic Center on Saturday morning.

The doubles point was hotly contested, with momentum swings going in both teams' directions. The Jumbos were the first to win a doubles match, winning 6-1 at the #1 position. The Mules answered with an impressive 6-4 victory at the #2 spot by junior captain Amelie Gal and first-year Ella Novion, who added to their impressive doubles record together. The doubles point came down to the #3 spot, with Tufts claiming the set 6-3. With this win, the Jumbos went into singles play up 1-0 in the dual match.

The Mules did not let Tufts hold onto the momentum, though. They quickly answered by taking the first sets on all four courts in action. Unfortunately for the Mules, Tufts answered with second-set victories on three of the four courts. At the #1 spot, however, sophomore Jade Finestone did not let her Tufts opponent get back into the match, utilizing clutch play to fend off her opponent 6-4, 6-4 in an outstanding win. The Jumbos answered with a win at the #4 spot, with Colby's Aida being forced to retire in the third set due to injury. Tufts then took three-set battles at the #2 and #3 spots, securing the dual match. After straight set wins at the #5 and #6 positions, the Jumbos won the dual match by a score of 6 to 1.

The Colby Women's Tennis team end their NESCAC regular season with four wins and six losses, securing a spot in the NESCAC championships, hosted next weekend at Wesleyan University. The Mules will wait to see who they face in the opening round of postseason play. They will practice hard this week before beginning the tournament on Friday.
