Middletown, CT - The Colby Women's Tennis team traveled to Wesleyan University to participate in the 2025 NESCAC Championship. The Mules, as the #7 seeds in the NESCAC, were to take on Wesleyan University, the #2 overall seed in the tournament.
In doubles play, there were multiple momentum swings back and forth. The Cardinals struck first with a 6-2 win at the #1 position. Colby answered quickly with a dominant 6-2 win of their own at the #3 spot, with sophomore
Jade Finestone and first-year
Waka Aida teaming up for the win. Down to the #2 spot for the opening doubles point, junior captain
Amelie Gal and first-year
Ella Novion found themselves in a back-and-forth contest. The duo exchanged breaks with their opponents, ending up in a tiebreaker to decide the doubles point. Unfortunately for the Mules, they fell by just two points, losing 7-6(5) to their Wesleyan opponents.
The Cardinals carried their doubles momentum into singles play, taking the first set on all six courts. The first singles match to finish was at the #2 spot, with Wesleyan winning in straight sets to take a 2-0 lead in the dual match. The Cardinals added on at the #6 spot, winning in straight sets to go within one point of clinching the match. Clinching the match for Wesleyan was their #5 singles, winning in straight sets to ice the match 4-0.
The Mules did not go down without a fight, but ultimately could not pull off the upset against the #6 team in the country and #2 seed in the NESCAC tournament. The Colby Women's Tennis team finishes the year with a 7-10 overall record in dual play. With no seniors graduating for the Mules, the team will add incoming recruits to next year's roster, hungry to improve and build off of this season's results.
