Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Tennis team wrapped up its weekend with an important NESCAC matchup at home against Hamilton College.
The Mules started out strong, being aggressive in doubles play, taking it to their Hamilton opponents. Junior captain
Amelie Gal and first-year
Ella Novion dominated their Hamilton opponents at the #2 position, winning 6-1 to set the tone early for the Mules. Junior captain
Isabella Suk and
Michaela Landry were efficient in their 6-3 win at the #1 spot, securing the doubles point for the Mules. At the #3 spot, sophomore
Jade Finestone and first-year
Anna Rende also were victorious, defeating their opponents 6-3. With Colby sweeping Hamilton in doubles, the Mules went up 1-0 in dual play heading into singles action.
Heading into singles play up 1-0 in the dual match, the Mules built off of their momentum. Landry was dominant at the #2 spot, defeating her Hamilton opponent 6-0, 6-3 in a masterful performance. First-year
Waka Aida was also superb in her matchup at the #4 spot, cruising past her opponent 6-1, 6-0. After the Continentals picked up wins at the #1, #5, and #6 positions, the match was tied up at 3-3. It all came down to the #3 position. Novion was not fazed by the pressure of the moment, using her forehand to dictate play and defeat her opponent in straight sets, by a score of 6-3, 6-3. As a result, Colby defeated Hamilton by a score of 4-3, a big win for the Mules as they head into the final stretch of NESCAC regular season play.
The Mules will next take on Bowdoin College Saturday morning at Mayflower Hill, where they will look to build off of this crucial win.
