Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Mules Fall to #7 Bowdoin

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Tennis team hosted #7 ranked Bowdoin College inside the Harold Alfond Athletic Center Saturday morning.

The opening doubles point was tightly contested, with momentum swings going toward both teams. The Polar Bears struck first with a 6-1 victory at the #2 position. Colby then answered with an impressive 6-3 win at the #3 spot from sophomore Jade Finestone and first-year Waka Aida. Unfortunately for the Mules, Bowdoin took the deciding doubles match, winning 6-4 in a back-and-forth contest at the #1 spot.

In singles play, the matches were close from the jump. Bowdoin took the first match at the #3 spot, winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Despite a great fight from Aida in her second set, she ultimately fell to her Bowdoin opponent 6-3, 7-6(2) at the #4 spot. Bowdoin clinched the match with a straight-sets victory at the #5 spot. The Mules did not give up, though, with some of their best players leading the way. Finestone had a back-and-forth contest at the #1 position, ultimately defeating her Bowdoin opponent in a dominant third-set tiebreaker, winning 6-4, 6-7(4), 1-0(5). Sophomore Michaela Landry matched Finestone's impressive win with a thrilling performance of her own. After dropping the first set, Landry fought back, showing impressive mental toughness, winning 4-6, 7-5, 1-0(6) at the #2 spot.

At the end of the match, Colby fell to the Polar Bears by a score of 5 to 2. The Mules certainly have positives to take away from the match and will look to bring these into a showdown against rival Bates College on Wednesday afternoon at Mayflower Hill.
