WATERVILLE, Maine – The Colby College softball team dropped both games of a non-conference doubleheader to Husson University on Monday afternoon at the Colby Softball Field. The Mules fell 5-1 to the Eagles in the opener and 3-0 in the nightcap.
GAME ONE: Husson 5, Colby 1
After a scoreless first inning, Husson (11-9) managed to plate five runs off five hits in the bottom of the second inning.
Colby (10-10) scored their lone run in the top of the seventh inning when junior
Emma Burnham hit an RBI infield single which allowed junior
Kelsey Sullivan to cross home plate to cap the scoring in game one.
Junior
Kathryne Clay took the loss after allowing five earned runs off six hits in 1.2 innings. Junior
KC DeSarno allowed a hit with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Sophomore
Juliana Kiley finished 2-3 at the plate while Burnham, junior
Carissa Cassidy, junior
Victoria Ramirez and senior
Erika MacLeod all recorded hits.
GAME TWO: Husson 3, Colby 0
Sophomore
Ashley Correll and Husson sophomore hurler Ana Lang locked heads in a pitchers' duel as neither team found the scoreboard until the bottom of the fourth inning when Husson produced the game's first run off a sacrifice fly.
The Eagles scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off a bases loaded walk and a Mule miscue for the 3-0 victory.
MacLeod finished with two hits for Colby while sophomore
Ella Wilcox and senior
Katelyn Hays all posted hits.
Correll yielded three unearned runs off four hits in 4.2 innings before being relieved by freshman
Sophia Meade, who tossed 1.1 innings.
Colby returns to action on Thursday when they play at the University of Maine for a single non-conference game at 5 p.m.
