Mules fall in NESCAC Playoffs

Clinton, NY - The Colby College Mules (14-6-6) were defeated by the Tufts University Jumbos (12-12-1) by a score of 6-2 in their Saturday afternoon matchup. The Mules and Jumbos were battling to advance to the NESCAC Championship game.

Matthew MacDonald opened the game at the four minute mark with a quick goal. Will Molson and Alex Keskintepe provided assists on the goal. Tufts quickly came back, netting two goals in under two minutes around the halfway point of the first period. In the second period, down by a goal, Tyler Crist scored an unassisted goal racing from coast to coast and beating the Jumbo goaltender over the left shoulder. The two teams would enter the third frame knotted at two goals apiece.

In the third period Tufts tipped the ice immediately, getting the jump on the Mules off the first faceoff and scoring the eventual game-winner 15 seconds into the period.  The Jumbos added two more, as well as an empty netter, for a final score of 6-2.

Colby won 50 faceoffs to Tufts's 27. Cooper Rautenstrauch capped a stellar first year for the Mules in net, tallying 33 saves.

The Mules finish their 2024-2025 campaign with a record of 14-6-6. Tufts would go on to fall in the championship game to top-seeded Hamilton.
