Claremont, CA - In the last of four matches for Colby's spring break trip in California, the Mules looked to leave the Golden State on a high against #4 ranked Pomona-Pitzer.
Despite valiant efforts, the Mules fell behind after doubles, losing 6-3, 6-4, and 6-3 at the #1 through #3 spots respectively. With losing the doubles point, Colby now had to try to win four of the six singles matches to pull off the upset.
Unfortunately for the Mules, Pomona-Pitzer had no let-up in singles play. The Hens secured straight-set victories in five of the six matches. At the #4 position, however, the Mules did pick up a point, and it was an incredible display by first-year Waka Aida. Aida, who has had an incredible start to her Colby career, continued her winning ways, defeating her opponent in dominant fashion, 6-2, 6-1 in just over an hour. The win will surely give Aida confidence heading into NESCAC play, knowing she can compete and win against the best players at her position.
After a long spring break trip, the Mules will return to Waterville to recuperate and train for their next match against Babson College on Saturday, April 5th.
